Woods and Waters Fine Arts Council is a 501(c)(3) corporation. In 2016-2017, we celebrate our 19th season. Our organization exists to bring cultural programs to our northern Wisconsin area. These programs consist primarily of musical entertainment provided by professional musicians and are held in the Harry D. Frokjer Auditorium at the Chequamegon High School in Park Falls, Wisconsin. The Board of Directors is responsible for planning and hosting these events. We usually provide 3-4 concerts a year. The dates for these events vary from year to year, but normally occur in the fall, winter, and spring. We finance them by selling season tickets, soliciting donations from local businesses and individuals, and applying for grants.
We contract for most of our artists through Allied Concert Services out of Plymouth, Minnesota. Admission to our concerts is by season ticket only. The reason that we sell season tickets instead of just individual concert tickets is that the programs cost us between $10,000 and $13,000 per year and we need to know that we will be able to cover that cost up front, regardless of conditions that may prevent people from attending a particular event, like weather or busy schedules. Usually, at the last concert of the year, we sell tickets for the following season, and if people buy next year’s ticket that night, they may get into that night’s concert free.
Another benefit we offer is that anyone who purchases a season ticket on or before September 1 receives a guest pass that they may use to bring a non-ticket holder to any one of our concerts. We also give guest passes to people or businesses who donate to support our organization.
Depending on the year, we try to provide one concert for which we contract locally. These events usually showcase more regional talent. Some of the programs that we have had in the past include the bell ringers, Twin Cities Bronze; the Wisconsin Singers from the University of Wisconsin - Madison; Big Woods Big Brass, a brass group made up of regional music teachers; 30th Star by Big Top Chautauqua; and Big Top Chautauqua's founder, Warren Nelson's quartet. These performances are part of the season ticket, but since we find these groups ourselves, we sell individual tickets as well. This year we will include Monroe Crossing, a bluegrass ensemble from Minneapolis, Minnesota.
We feel we offer a unique service to our area by bringing professional entertainers here to perform at a very affordable price.
